The Loose Bowls Club website has been sponsored by a small group of members known as the LSW Club.
It all started about 8 years ago when Bob and Ray, two senior members of the bowls club, fell into the habit of the occasional lunch together - finding it to be an extremely enjoyable task it soon became a regular appointment.
Another member of the bowls club - Colin - who much like the others was recovering from illness, was invited to join the duo and very quickly they all fell into this regular luncheon pattern of seeking out culinary delights.
Given the ages of the three people concerned and their natural flair for "Whining and Dining" the group was affectionately called "The Last of the Summer Whine Club"
There was some debate as to who would have to be "Compo"as both Bob and Colin are short in stature but big in personality.
A little while later, fresh faced from retirement, Roger joined the trio, bringing with him an amazing amount of knowledge of the "Pubs in Kent and beyond" and an astonishing ability to navigate - his directions being based on pubs he passed.
Since then, the Last of the Summer Whine Club have toured the county compiling a list of which pubs serve good food and beer (purely for research purposes of course). As a foursome they have the ability to turn even the quietest pub into one filled with laughter, something which extends with great hilarity to our bar after matches.
In various capacities (Chairman, Treasurer or Captain), each member of the group has left their mark on Loose Bowls Club, and without them, this website would not have been possible. Therefore, they were asked for a message to other bowlers and club members, so they would like to leave you with this pearl of wisdom :
"Don't wait for a light to appear at the end of the tunnel, - go down and light the thing yourself"
Of late the composition of the group has changed with the retirement of Ray and the addition of Keith, but the theme of the LSW remains the same.
Occasions arise for us to include a visitor on the twice monthly trips. We also offer a raffle prize each year whereby the lucky lady winner is invited to join us for the day. This includes carriage for the day, lunch, afternoon tea, a beautiful bouquet and photograph(s) as a momento of this special occasion. |
